The Project Document
This document isn’t one of the four parts of the 4:20+Research Method. Rather it’s to help you track details related to the overall project. Due dates. Deliverables. And specifics that will help ensure you succeed.
We recommend you either copy the Google doc version to your own google drive, or download and print the PDF version of this doc to take notes as you research.
You may want to add to or edit these questions to reflect your niche, your customer, and the work you do. As with the other research docs we’ve provided, this is just a starting point, but it’s a solid starting point. If you use a project management tool like Dubsado or Clickup, you may want to make this document (or your version of it) part of your process.
The first question is: What is the goal of this project? It’s always good to keep in mind the goal your client has for hiring you in the first place. If their goal is more sales that will help guide you in the work you do. If their goal is authority building, you may recommend different deliverables.
The second question is simply Who is the decision maker? For most projects, this will be the client you are working with, but in some cases, like working with large, enterprise businesses, there may be other people to keep in mind.
The next question is: What are the deliverables? Your client may be expecting specific deliverables. Content or copy for sure. But possibly a roadmap or strategy doc, a research report, wireframes, etc. Note them here.
The next question is: Where do prospects come from? What do they see immediately before whatever it is you are creating? Knowing this will help you keep your work congruent with what the customer is expecting to see or hear. Are prospects coming from ads? Affiliates? Search results? Sales materials? Something else? You’ll want to see this stuff before you begin to write.
Finally, we want to know: What does success look like? Asking your client to define this will help you know how to help them and when you’ve achieved your goal.
